2000: BTB Year in Review Part III - A New Beginning
October:
Another bizarre occurrence in the Autumn Contest at Folkestone. Despite the usual modest performance in the Hymn (our traditional false-sense-of-security-lulling start to this contest every year), we somehow contrived to pick up a Second Place in our first Autumn Contest since promotion. On top of this surprising result we also managed to pick up an award for best horn section (for which our esteemed Flugel player felt he deserved some credit, bounding onto the stage in front of the "proper" horns to collect the cup...).
The November Rememberance Day Parade was a complete monsoon. Nonetheless, the band decided we wanted to march anyway (in true Bulldog spirit) and consequently so did everyone else! We were still trying to dry out the following day, mind you.
Unfortunately my computer crashed in October and wasn't fixed til the following year. Consequently this is where the year review ends.
Suffice to say the usual concerts (Autumn Concert, Masonic Hall, Whatlington Festival, Christmas Concert, Civil Service Club, Conquest Hospital, McMillan Nurses...) went off as usual, with increasing festive joi-de-vivre!
Oh yes, and we played at the Millennium Dome at the end of November! Probably our most prestigious invite to date, and believe it or not we all enjoyed the Dome itself as well (waste of money or not!). What the tourists made of us has not been recorded.
