2000: BTB Year in Review Part III - A
New Beginning
March:
- Gasp! Yet more Prodigals returned to the
band (stop it, we've run out of fatted calves. Anyone else returns and we'll
have to start on the Bass section). This time doubling the Pelling clan contingent
of the band by welcoming back Jo and Dean Pelling. Dean was
Principal Cornet here for many years before disappearing off up North and
getting married. It was good to see them on the recent East Sussex Brass workshop,
and hopefully this time they are back for good. Welcome back!
- We welcomed two new faces to this month's Committee
Meeting - new Chairman Ron Page and Russell Kemp. In order to
stop new-boy Russell feeling left-out, he was delegated to help make tea and
wash up. Some of us were of the opinion that the band as a group should have
more social events (such as curry evenings!), so he was also volunteered to
take up a newly-created (indeed specially-created) post of Social Secretary.
That'll teach him to want to be in involved in things.
- Chris Willard set up an e-mail Newsgroup/Mailing
List/Discussion Forum for Battle Town Band. Just what everyone has been waiting
for! A chance to air your views on the band (or anything roughly related to
it...) in public. If you have any. *NB: Phil this does not include discussions
on Ephiphytes, ancient Celtic martial arts, mountain survival or cheese, unless
you can make them band-related* Also a way of keeping up-to-date on BTB happenings
without constantly having to look through all the rubbish on that irritating
website. Hang on...that's this website...
- This year's Band Barbeque, which was to have been
axed to make way for our Silver Jubilee Reunion extravaganza, was sensationally
reinstated following a last-minute complaint by hostess-with-the-mostess Kirsty.
It will take place, as before, on the Saturday of August Bank Holiday Weekend
(26th), with the Reunion following the next Saturday. Get out your party frocks,
and pour the hostess a large gin please!
