2000: BTB Year in Review Part III - A
New Beginning
January:
- Award! This little old site was voted "Most
Entertaining Band Website" in the 1999 Internet Oscars. I still do
not know how, but cheers to everyone that voted for us and...um...I'm "well
chuffed" as they say. Of course, the site's not as funny as it used to
be you know.
- Promotion! For the first (and quite possibly last)
time in our history we were somehow promoted to a higher section. Due to our
rather surprising success over the last year or two we moved up into the SCABA
2nd Section, which means we could now be beaten by (sorry, that should read
"compete against") local rivals Sussex Brass and Cranbrook Town.
This will take effect as from the Spring Contest in May. On the plus side,
we don't have to get up so early on contest day now.
- A diehard group of us
nipped over to Disneyland Paris. Many beverages were consumed, with the result
that some people found the rollercoasters rather heavy going, and we had the
unique opportunity of marching down the park's Main Street. Given that we
usually struggle marching down Battle High Street, this may well have seemed
over-ambitious. Nevertheless, it was a great weekend (a more comprehensive
review and pictures are here ).
- A nice man from the council came to explain to us
that trying to get money for a bandroom would need all of us to remortgage
our houses, go to Las Vegas and start praying very hard.
- Ricky and Sandra at the Senlac laid
on the food and drink for our 'Christmas' meal on...um...January 3rd. It all
went very well considering no-one could remember what they had ordered (although,
as expected, it did descend to chimpanzee's tea party levels at some stages).
Prizes were awarded to some of the top performers in the Commitment League
from last year (Claire, Stuart, Ron and - grudgingly - Peter) and missiles,
water and insults were thrown. Great.
